Dr. Elliot Menkowitz is a veteran orthopedic surgeon from the suburban Philadelphia area and is one of the most respected physicians in the region. During 40 years of patient care, he has witnessed firsthand the evolution of medical liability lawsuit abuse.
Dr. Menkowitz founded Doctor’s Advocate in 2005 as a resource to help physicians frivolously sued. Under his direction, the organization has helped healthcare professionals in various specialties navigate and avoid costly courtroom battles.
Dr. Menkowitz holds board certifications from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the Fellow American College of Surgeons. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, American Society of Orthopedic Surgery, the American Fracture Association, the Southern Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Montgomery County Medical Society, the Babcock Surgical Society, the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Orthopedic Societies, the American Medical Society, and the Eastern Orthopedic Society. He is a 10-time recipient of the American Medical Association (AMA) Award for Physician’s Recognition, and was also awarded the Teaching Award at Temple University Medical School in 2002.
In October of 2002, The Hill School, a college preparatory school in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, unveiled the Elliot Menkowitz, M.D. Health Center. The facility includes three exam rooms, one treatment room, and twelve beds, and offers a variety of medical services to students. The building was named in honor of Dr. Menkowitz as a tribute to his status as a superior local physician and his efforts in helping to renovate the Center.
Dr. Menkowitz graduated from La Salle College and then Temple University Medical School, where he was a member of the Medical Honorary Society.
Mr. Grabois is Doctor’s Advocate’s lead counsel and advisor on all cases involved with our membership. He has been successful in helping various physician members avoid costly legal battles associated with frivolous lawsuits. Both he and our founder, Dr. Menkowitz, are among the first people involved when our members are sued, as they bring a mixture of medical and legal expertise on which we pride ourselves.
Mr. Grabois is one of the most respected legal minds in the Northeast United States. His diverse background includes service in the areas of civil litigation, criminal defense and prosecution, legal malpractice, personal injury, and more. He is also an author and speaker in the legal world.
Among Marshall’s awards are various Pennsylvania “Super Lawyers” recognitions, and the honor as one of the “Best Attorneys in Pennsylvania” from the Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law.
Mr. Butto is the chief operating officer for Doctor’s Advocate. In this role he manages various aspects of the organization, including legal representation, strategic partnerships, and financials.
Michael brings over 25 years of experience as a corporate finance and operational executive building, leading, and advising companies through complex restructurings, expansion, and capital markets transactions. He has worked with various physician organizations and practices to help them achieve growth and profitability.
Michael is accomplished in mergers and acquisitions, structuring and negotiating transactions and favorable terms with commercial and investment banks. He is an excellent leader with a track record of documented contributions leading to improved financial performance, increased shareholder value, heightened productivity, and enhanced internal controls.
Ms. Butto serves as the director of physician relations for Doctor’s Advocate. She is responsible for communicating and collaborating directly with our membership and is the first point of contact for their questions and suggestions.
Ellie has held diverse positions in the medical world for over 25 years, primarily in the dental world. As a former dental practice owner and operator, public health dental hygienist practitioner, director of corporate hygiene, and consultant, she has seen firsthand the various challenges healthcare professionals face in their day-to-day operations.
Ellie has witnessed frivolous lawsuits in action. She understands that healthcare professionals who are sued deserve explicit attention, and her experience and insight with both corporate and private malpractice issues are crucial for those who need it immediately. She prides herself on transparency and integrity, and her philosophy and assertive approach provides the peace of mind healthcare professionals need when facing their biggest challenges.
