California will launch a telehealth network

Telehealth networks bridge the gap between patients and specialists and allow healthcare providers to view test results from X-rays and other scans etc. immediately and they will also be able to remotely view procedures from the ER and other surgical centers in real time.  This network utilizes a broadband stream, dedicated to only healthcare information and is not connected to the “mainstream information highway.”

“The California Telehealth Network marks the beginning of a new digital highway that will fundamentally change the future of how healthcare is provided,” California Gov. Schwarzenegger said, according to InformationWeek.

Two remote sites have already been launched and 50 more sites will be added shortly.  You can read more on this new technology in this Los Angeles Times article,
