Federal Aid will help Safety-Net Hospitals…for now

Safety-net hospitals in Massachusetts are set to receive $435 million in aid over the next two years.  $335 million will be coming from the Federal Government and $100 million will be coming from the State Government.

These safety-net hospitals would have run out of cash if they were not slated to receive such assistance from the Federal Government.  These hospitals have already taken funds from their cash reserves to pay the bills.

Part of the agreement to be eligible to receive these funds is that these hospitals overhaul their payment system and run more efficiently.  These safety net hospitals care a large number of lower income families who are not able to pay for their medical care.  Check out this Boston Globe article, US offers lifeline to Mass. hospitals BMC could get $180m infusion
