Orthopaedic Surgeons Express Profound Disappointment in Veto of SB 1280

Senator John Rafferty (R-Montgomery) sponsored this bill, which would set “the medical liability insurance limits for physicians at $500,000 for private market coverage and $500,000 for Mcare coverage for seven years.”  A secondary aspect of this bill creates “a new formula for annual Mcare assessments that are imposed upon physicians and hospitals.  The measures in this bill would afford exceptional stability for a defined span of time, seven years.  Physicians and hospitals would also be protected from extreme yearly assessments.  This bill also guarantees that the Mcare Fund will ultimately be phased out.
