Will religious discrimination be okayed at a hospital in Florida?

At Helen Ellis Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Fla, the city commissioners’ vote is allowing hiring to be based upon religion.  The hospital is moving forward in a merger with Adventist Health System.

As this clause barring religious discrimination is removed, other Seventh-day Adventist policies will be implemented into the new policies.  To work at this hospital, you will not need to be religiously affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church; however, neither will prospective employees be denied employment due to their religious affiliation.  State and federal law already protects employees against discrimination of any kind, regardless of this clause, but this matter still did come before the city commissioners for a vote.  For more on this issue, Tarpon Springs commissioners waive hospital clause barring religious discrimination
